Graduation on the Horizon
So the countdown to graduation continues. Tomorrow is the last Wednesday at college. It's weird to think that, to type it, and to say it aloud. I think I am still in denial that I'm actually leaving this campus and may not see my friends for...a long time. This denial festers in my brain mostly because I haven't moved an inch to pack anything in my room yet. The thing is, I've accumulated so many objects, clothes, pictures, projects, and papers (how's that for alliteration?) over the year that I don't exactly know what to pack or where to put things. I have some bins beneath my bed that may help alleviate the pile of shoes that currently sits at my door, but as for my mountains of clothes, the picture frames on my dresser, the books, folders, notebooks, pens, and mail stashed away in drawers or underneath my bed? Well, those can continue gathering dust until my parents help me move everything on Saturday.
I can hear the disapproval in my parents' voices right now. Why didn't you take care of this earlier? What have you done this whole week? Why couldn't you have packed things? Well, I would pack things if I knew where to put everything, but there's just not enough space in this room to pack. At least that's my argument for when they ask. I'm probably too lazy to pack...yeah, that's the reality of it...
Now my guilt is getting the better of me.
I think I will pack something tomorrow - shoes sounded like a good idea - or throw out my folders....
Hoarding
Sometimes I imagine myself becoming a hoarder. I don't like the idea of throwing out my folders or notebooks. I still have folders and notebooks from freshman year, and even high school, stashed away in bins at my parents' house. I know I'll never look through them again, since I don't know where anything is, except in the bins, but the exact location and appearance of these bins is not memorized...Still, the mere thought that I have them somewhere comforts me. Is this a sign of hoarding? I guess I think "What if I do need it somewhere down the road? Isn't it a good idea to hold onto it, because you never know?" Well, I'm sure by the time I've moved to Scotland I won't ever think about those bins, giving my parents plenty of time to throw them out or recycle them or sell them at an auction. Some action that scatters the work I've created over the past four years, at least.
Scotland Beckons
My 10 day trip to Scotland starts a week from tomorrow. I am so excited! I cannot wait to see Fraser, cannot wait to be with him again. And to see his family.
His family is great. They feel like my family, and I'm not even in their family officially. It's great to feel accepted by your significant other's important people - friends, family, extended family. All of the above in Fraser's case are great and seem to approve - so that's good! It will be nice to see them again and to hear how they've been doing.
Even though it's only 10 days, knowing that I will have seen Fraser before my internship starts calms me down. I am still worried about living in New York...
Grad school news
I received an accommodation assignment for the duration of my postgrad studies for next year! I've been assigned to one of the flats designated for international postgraduate students. I am beyond excited about that, not to mention relieved. I had a feeling I would get accommodation, but just knowing I definitely have a place to stay puts me at ease and makes me so anxious for August! It will be here sooner than we know, that's for sure.
Welcome to the Family!
I also have a niece! Well, kind of. She's a cat, but my sister's cat, so she is my niece if you consider pets as surrogate children. I haven't met her yet, but she has been purported as friendly and cuddly - good traits to have in a pet/child!
I miss the days when my sisters and I had pets. For most of my childhood I preferred cats to dogs, but after having a dog in high school, my views changed, and I began to favor dogs more. They are more sociable and eager to please. They also have the ability to do great tricks, if you teach them right... One day I hope to have another pet, but we'll see. Depends on financial and living situations, and if Fraser wants one, which I think right now he will need a bit of convincing before he agrees!
Until I Write Again
Well, that's all I can think of to ramble about tonight. Will write again soon...I do have to say I really enjoy maintaining this blog again. Writing during leisure time possesses this therapeutic quality. I can see why people do this for a living. It gives you a rush, a high, a chance to apply the vocabulary you've always wanted to use! Well, I don't know about that last part; I haven't embraced the litany of vocabulary terms in these posts so far. Maybe I should...

I liked this.
I hope you get to meet your niece, too. She's not doing too well over here at the moment, as you know. Hope you manage to pack before the weekend. :P
