Weeks 4 and 5

The weeks are starting to really pick up. Just 4 more left. Hard to believe it's gone by so quickly. I love every aspect of the internship, but I will be very happy to leave New York City. If there's one thing I've determined from this experience it's that I am not a city girl. I could commute, but to live in a bustling, crazy, fast-paced, expensive city for years....I don't think I could do it. Suburbia is the life I wish to lead!

The past two weeks at Penguin have gone great. I have been reading a lot and liking a lot of what I'm reading. Week 4 of the internship gave me the opportunity to attend more meetings and also help brainstorm for a new book. It's a pretty neat process, to say the least.

Last week was a shorter week because of the 4th of July. I read manuscripts, attended meetings, and enjoyed spending time with my core group members at lunches. On the weekend my mom and sister came to visit, and we had a great time celebrating the 4th and relaxing. I was very happy to have them here.

This past weekend I visited a friend I've known since high school. I stayed at her place, and the two of us wandered around Princeton University for a while, checked out a Starbucks, and went to her place to eat dinner - shrimp and pasta - and watch a movie. We actually watched two movies, Dear Frankie (which I highly recommend for any Gerard Butler fans out there!) and Hope Springs (which I highly do not recommend ever watching. It's bizarre and not worth the time!). Overall, the weekend was very relaxing a nice. I really enjoyed spending time with my friend and catching up!

This coming week will hold more reading and meetings, and generally just a typical work week!

New York itself has suffered a heat wave the past two weeks, and I think it will pick up again this week, reaching the upper 90s. It's hard to do anything but sweat in front of the fan when I'm in my room my accommodation does not provide air conditioning to its occupants.

On another note, I have hopefully found a place to stay for the last week of my internship. Another intern lives in the city full-time, so I asked if I could live with her and she said she thinks that will be okay. That lifts a massive weight off my shoulders!

Well, thanks for reading and tune in next week for another update!
